Remember the daylight savings time shift mantra: have you checked your smoke detector batteries? Well, you may not need to worry so much about the batteries anymore.

Effective July 1st  2013, New York City multi-family property owners (Class A & B) must install 10-year, sealed battery smoke or combination smoke/CO alarms when replacing outdated, missing or damaged units. Alarms like the Kidde Worry-Free sealed-battery smoke alarms comply with this new law. Kidde Fire Safety, a leading manufacturer of residential fire safety products, is part of UTC Building & Industrial Systems, a unit of United Technologies Corp. (NYSE: UTX).
